Email diary: Berlin 23-26 March 2002

Join Harrogate Grammar School as they go on a guided history tour of Berlin. We'll be updating this page with photos of their stay as the weekend progresses.

Saturday
23 March
Exploring the area around Zoo Station, the centre of former West Berlin, including the Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church and the Kurfurstendaam.

Sunday
24 March

Full day excursion to Sachsenhausen Concentration Camp and the Olympic Stadium.
Wannsee Villa where the 1942 conference discussed the 'Final Solution'


Monday
25 March
Central Berlin Goering's Air Ministry buildings, the site of the 1953 uprising, and Prinz-Albrecht-Strasse, the former HQ of the SS and Gestapo. From this point we will follow the former line of the Wall to Checkpoint Charlie and visit the nearby Haus am Checkpoint Charlie Museum.

The afternoon will be spent on and around Unter den Linden, visiting Bebelplatz (the site of the book burning), the Neue Wache (the German War Memorial), Alexanderplatz, the Brandenburg Gate and the Reichstag.
