The group in front of the Reichstag, in the cold and rain, feeling rather sorry for themselves after a long night with little sleep, yet lots of sweets and chocolate.

On Potsdamer Platz, devastated by wartime bombing, which fifty years afterward remained wasteland with the Berlin Wall wrapped round it. The area is now subject to major redevelopment. Our guide, Lt. Col. (ret'd) Tony Le Tissier is explaining how the area used to be.


The Reichstag and the scaffolded Brandenburg Gate in the background as we hear about the shortcomings of the proposed site for the new American Embassy building. The pipes were used to pump water from the land around the centre of Berlin.
