Wannsee
villa
The group
outside the Wannsee Villa where the Final Solution was planned, and the
Kenneth Branagh film Conspiracy was filmed. After visiting Sachsenhausen
in the morning, and watching part of the film on the coach in the afternoon,
this visit gave the students a real feeling for the clinical way in which
the Final Solution was planned.
Olympic
stadium
This is the
original bell from the 1936 Berlin Olympics. The hole came from an accidental
shot by a Hitler Youth flak gunner in 1945.
This shot is taken from the top of the Glockenturn (Bell Tower) showing
the 1936 Olympic Stadium which is now being renovated for the 2006 Football
World Cup.
Allied War Cemetery
The students were impressed by the size and condition of the cemetery. They noticed how many men had died on the same day, and the number of deaths. One student thinks she found her great grandfather's grave.

On Sunday we visited the Sachsenhausen concentration camp. It was very moving and really helped us to appreciate the horror of the Nazi atrocities.
